SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the Magical Kenya Open at the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi from Thursday 3 to Sunday 6 March 2022.SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.
The Magical Kenya Open is an event featured on the DP World Tour (European Tour), having previously been associated with the Safari Circuit and Challenge Tour. It was first established in 1967 and has featured some legendary winners down the years, including the likes of Seve Ballesteros, Ian Woosnam and three-time champion Maurice Bembridge.
The reigning title holder is South African Justin Harding, who shot 263 (– 21) to win by two strokes ahead of American Kurt Kitayama in the 2021 edition, which was held at the Karen Country Club. Harding will be looking to defend his title when this year’s Magical Kenya Open gets underway on Thursday.“It’s exciting, you don’t always get the opportunity to defend but I’ve always played quite nicely here in Kenya albeit on the other course in Karen. From what I’ve seen so far this week, this golf course at Muthaiga is beautiful, in good nick,” said Harding.
He added, “I love Kenya, for one the people are just super-friendly and hospitable. I think the crowds are always great, I’ve loved my time here. They’re very welcoming, they embrace the Kenya Open, it’s got a lot of rich history and it’s always a well-supported event. I haven’t had the opportunity to go on a safari yet, so that’s still on the bucket list.“It’s essential we come to places like this, I think it’s a big reason why DP World became the title sponsors of the tour. It’s within the culture of the tour that we get to go everywhere.
We get to see everywhere – from Asia to Europe to Africa.”One of Harding’s main threats will come from 2019 Magical Kenya Open champion Guido Migliozzi of Italy, while last year’s Kenya Savannah Classic winner, Daniel van Tonder, is another to keep an eye out for.The Muthaiga Golf Club features a 7,184-yard par 71 course. The purse for the Magical Kenya Open is €1,750,000.No rival can compete with SuperSport’s coverage.
