KCB storm into Floodlit rugby tournament semis

KCB RFC stunned Kenya Harlequins 14-10 in the quarter-finals of the Floodlit Rugby Tournament on Wednesday night to secure a slot in the semi-finals.

The bankers have set up a date with Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad in the semi-final encounter slated for November 5th, 2022.

The first half of the match was a tight duel between the two sides but KCB’s forward Nelson Nyandati managed to get a try for his team that saw the halftime score stand at 8-7 in favor of KCB.

Speaking after the match, Backs coach Mariko Mushilla said: “We expected a tough match against a well-organized and solid team today. Quins put their best foot forward and gave us a run for our money. The boys were not in their best element today, but we expected it considering that this was our first competitive match before the start of the 2022/2023 Kenya Cup season.

KCB changed their tactical approach to the match in the second half but could not put the ball past Harlequin’s defense but it was Festus Silasie who converted two penalties to seal the much-needed win.

Former Shujaa captain Andrew Amonde said: “Today was going to be scrappy because we are trying to incorporate new blood into the team and check on various systems before the new Kenya Cup season. Going forward, we expect the team to be sharp to guarantee us maximum points.”

The Floodlit Rugby Tournament offers build-up matches to various teams that will be participating in the 2022/2023 Kenya Cup season, scheduled to kick off on November 26th, 2022.
