Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Sam Nyamweya has congratulated outgoing Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji for his appointment as the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director to take over from Brigadier Major-General Phillip Kameru.
Haji was recently nominated for the position by President William Ruto, but a section of Civil Society bodies have been questioning the appointment.
“Haji has distinguished himself as a diligent and patriotic public servant and professional. As he walks out of the sensitive and critical office, he does so with his head up as a professional with unequaled fidelity to the Constitution. I laud Haji for restoring dignity and honour to an office that had hitherto appeared to be at the call and beckon of insidious and undemocratic powerful political players who were keen to weaponize the institution, which is a key plank in the dispensation of justice at the expense of justice,” Nyamweya told www.mediaguru.co.ke.
He added: “As a trained lawyer and sleuth, Haji often sniffed the political malice in the extra-judicial, illegal, and extortionist cases crafted against some innocent Kenyans by the political pliant office of the Director of Criminal Investigations.”
The seasoned Kisii politician said Haji had the rare courage to withstand a barrage of hypocritical and partisan public outrage to drop some cases that were politically-instigated cases against the targeted individuals.
“I know Haji as an honest, diligent, and professional, who is above reproach and I laud President William Ruto for appointing him as the NIS Director. His return to NIS is merited and akin to returning a fish to water,” Nyamweya said.
He added: “Haji will be a critical player in ensuring hygiene in the dispensation of justice for all that the country so badly needs to usher in an era of great promise in socio-economic and political transformation, institutional independence, accountable and transparent public service delivery and banishing political witch hunts.”
