Gabri Veiga named LaLiga Santander Player of the Month for February

Gabri Veiga has been named LaLiga Santander Player of the Month for February. The 20-year-old played a vital role in Celta picking up seven points from a possible 12, a positive return in a gruelling month as the Galicians took on three of LaLiga Santander top five.

RC Celta kicked off February by claiming a thrilling 4-3 away win over Real Betis, with Veiga scoring his side’s first and third goals, including a strike which showcased his jaw-dropping talent and iron will. Celta then went on to narrowly lose to Atletico Madrid at home but in their following match Los Celestes snatched an impressive point at the Reale Arena against Real Sociedad, in which Veiga played a hand in Iago Aspas’s goal.

The best was yet to come, though: Gabri ran riot as Celta thrashed Real Valladolid 3-0 at home in front of a roaring Balaidos. The academy graduate not only assisted the opener but scored the following two goals, and while his first club hat-trick will have to wait, the midfield maestro’s performance will live long in the memories of the Celta faithful. Gabri couldn’t contain his delight after the match: “It’s one of the best days in my life, I feel right at home.”

Gabri Veiga follows in the footsteps of Alexander Sorloth, who won the Player of the Month award for January. Veiga wasn’t the only player to shine in February – Frenkie de Jong, Eduardo Camavinga, Sergio Canales, Oihan Sancet, Reinildo Mandava and Fran Garcia also all deserve a mention as runners-up.
