SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans in TPC Louisiana from Thursday 21 to Sunday 24 April 2022.
SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.
First held back in 1938 – and annually since 1958 – this tournament adopted a team stroke-play format from 2017 onwards, with fourball for the first and third rounds and alternate shot for the second and fourth rounds.
Last year’s winners were Australians Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith, who defeated South Africans Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel in a playoff to take the title – a second triumph for Smith, having won this tournament alongside Swede Jonas Blixt in 2017.
Leishman and Smith will be back in New Orleans this week and looking to defend their title. “Cameron was ranked in the top ten in the world until [February] on the strength of an excellent season last year and a victory in the opening event this year,” said Steve Worthy, Fore!Kids Foundation CEO and tournament director. “Marc has also played very well of late, with a tie for third and fourth in the first two events of the fall season, so we expect they will make a very strong defence of their title.”
An exciting team up sees Billy Horschel, the only player to claim both individual and team titles at the Zurich Classic, pair with two-time PGA Tour winner and former LSU All-American Sam Burns. “Billy will be going for an unprecedented third victory at the Zurich Classic,” said Worthy. “They have good experience playing together, as they finished second by one stroke as a team in last year’s QBE Shootout and fourth in our tournament.”
Other pairs to watch include Bubba Watson & Harold Varner III; Collin Morikawa & Viktor Hovland; Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele; and European Ryder Cup teammates Sergio Garcia and Tommy Fleetwood.
“These two European stars finished second as a team here in 2019, and Tommy Fleetwood took fourth in 2018 playing with fellow Englishman Chris Paisley,” said Worthy. “Both Tommy and Sergio have distinguished themselves in team play at the Ryder Cup, with Sergio scoring the most points in Ryder Cup history.”
The TPC Louisiana features a par 72, 7,425-yard course. The purse for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans is $8.3million.
