Sam Burns returns to defend his PDA Tour Sanderson Farms Championship, catch all the action on Dstv SuperSport

SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the PGA Tour’s Sanderson Farms Championship from the Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi from Thursday 29 September to Sunday 2 October 2022.

SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of an action from around the world.

Formerly known as the Magnolia Classic (and other titles through the years), the Sanderson Farms Championship was first played in 1968, with only three players having claimed the title more than once: Dwight Nevil (1973 & 1974), Brian Henninger (1994 & 1999) and Fred Funk (1998 & 2004) are the only two-time winners.

The reigning champion is Sam Burns, who shot 266 (-22) to take the title in 2021 by one stroke ahead of fellow Americans Nick Watney and Cameron Young. The 26-year-old will be back in Mississippi to defend his crown and be joined by major championship winners Gary Woodland (US Open 2019), Jason Dufner (PGA Championship 2013), Stewart Cink (The Open Championship 2009), and Lucas Glover (US Open 2009).

In addition, former Sanderson Farms Championship winners Sebastian Munoz (2019), Cameron Champ (2018), Ryan Armour (2017), Cody Gribble (2016), Peter Malnati (2015), Nick Taylor (2014), Scott Stallings (2012), and Chris Kirk (2011) are also set to feature in the field.

“We’re thrilled at the strength of our field in our fourth year as a stand-alone event,” said executive director Steve Jent. “With our position as the second event of the new FedExCup season, the fact that this season’s playoffs will now include only 70 players, the golf course’s reputation –especially the greens – and the hospitality the players’ experience, there’s now a buzz that this is an event players need to play as part of their fall schedule.”

The tournament will also go ahead despite a water crisis in Jackson. “While we are confident the Sanderson Farms Championship won’t be directly affected by the water crisis, the health and welfare of those in Greater Jackson remain a significant concern,” a PGA Tour spokesperson wrote in a statement to Golf Digest. “We will remain in close contact with Executive Director Steve Jent and his tournament team on ways we can collaborate to assist those in need.”

The Country Club of Jackson features a 7461-yard par 72 course, and the Sanderson Farms Championship has a purse of $7.9million.
